Elevator Pitch

  1. Hey Grace! I absolutely love how you included the Disney castle introduction at the beginning of your video and the juxtaposition when you introduce Disney as a company. The way you highlighted key points (such as your research question) by having it written out on the screen was also very effective in laying your argument out clearly for the audience. I also like the way you justify using the Marxist lens to analyze the family unit and gender within Disney movies. The explanation of the method is also very clear, and I like how you specifically explain the categories that you are coding for. As for any critiques, sometimes you could tell that you were reading off a script or not looking directly at the camera, and, when you were further away sitting next to the plush toys, it was a little more difficult to hear what you were saying, but overall you had a great speaking presence and did a wonderful job selling your project. I am very excited to see what you find with your research! :)

  2. I think that you had a really strong video, and I think that your understanding has grown so much throughout this project, so I'm pretty impressed. I do, however, need you to more clearly articulate why it matters that Disney might be purporting Marxist definitions of the family -- as in, does that show that Disney's priority is not actually to be a "moral teacher," but instead to perpetuate capitalist ideals, thus producing more consumers and keeping the corporation going. Do you see what I'm saying? It needs to be slightly more connected -- all of the pieces are there, though!
